I was born in Davie, a small rural town in south Florida, where I have spent the past several years documenting the residents who inhabit it.

This work examines, from a personal perspective, what it is that brings folks together, or in other words, what a community represents. In doing so, I have gained a deeper understanding in relation to my individual upbringing. I have found that my original experiences of community contrast greatly from the majority of peers in my generation, who routinely engage over vast distances via online platforms.

From the slow-paced, word-of-mouth communication amongst neighbors; compared to the rapid motion of social media, I look at ideas as to what defines genuine intimacy –– searching for clarity by photographing the people in my primary environment and in their most comfortable settings. "Davie" was shot on film because it went in hand with the aesthetic of the subject matter, in that its process is both slow and meditative.

These images give glimpses into their magic, truths, stories, and quiet immensity.
